Situated between Underberg and Kokstad in the southern Drakensberg, Lake St Bernard lies at an altitude of 1700m above sea-level in the heart of the East Griqualand district. Estimated at over 100 hectares in extent, this vast piece of water is renowned for producing trophy rainbow trout of staggering sizes.
The lake has wide variety of structure, from weed beds and drop-offs to gravel-bottomed shallows, with a large deep area in front of the dam wall and a shallow inlet. We will be staying in a comfortable cottage on the shore of the lake and our trip is planned over a new moon, the most favourable period in the month to target trophy rainbows.
The trip will hosted by a Frontier Fly Fishing pro-staffer who will be on hand to offer tips and advice to our guests.
